Time to ring in the New Year and I'll be readying the Mop Philosophy Kitchen. Today I'll be paying bills online, polishing up the copper and simmering a big pot of lentil soup, essentially putting my house in order for 2013.
We typically go out on the 31st but for whatever reason this year it's the last thing we want to do. We are having some neighbours around, and some friends might drop for a glass of sparkling but that is the full extent of party activities.
Cheers to you and to the new year. I for one feel ready to welcome it, how about you?
xoDani
Happy New Year Dani, I'm all spic and span now, it's a great feeling.
ReplyDeleteI feel the strange bareness of January coming on, it's my least favourite month. It will be worse once the tree and cards come down at the end of the week.
Tabs, WMM is right, this will be a glorious month, it's her birthday after all!!
DeleteI know what you mean though. It can seem quite bare after the fun of the holidays. We normally have a warm weather trip to look forward to but not this year, I'm happy to be at home though, I'm going to focus on organizing and fluffing things around here!
Happy New Year Dani! I am definitely ready for this year to be over. Here's to a fantastic 2013!
ReplyDeleteHi LR, yes here's to it! I hope yours is wonderful.
DeleteMay 2013 bring good things to you and your family, Dani! The first half of 2012 was tumultuous, but the second half has been wonderful. In any case, I am looking forward to 2013. I hope you continue to share your menus and/or recipes with us this year! Your food always sounds or looks so good and seems very healthy. I'd like to start to eat more vegetarian-like myself, but have to cook for meat-eaters too, so I don't know how that will work but I may try it. Well anyway happy new year and I hope it brings you much joy.
ReplyDeleteHi cate, funny you should mention that as I am leaning towards more plant-based foods this year. I find my family gets used to it, though it does help that they are not really fussy. I'll have to plan some posts around veg meals! I hope the new year also brings you and yours much joy!!
DeleteWe always stay at home. Maybe we will go out and party one year, but we are such homebodies now that we have kids. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy new year to you all, too! May all your dearest wishes come true in 2013!
Dina home is the best plan with young kids. Happy new year to you and your family!
DeleteMaybe a final 2012 closet purge today? Staying in tonight with a cozy fire and a movie. A very Happy and Healthy New Year to you and your family, Dani, and thank you again for a wonderful year of posts.
ReplyDeleteKathy, you know me I love a closet go-over. A cozy fire sounds good. I hope you had a wonderful evening. Thank you for coming by my blog and commenting, I so appreciate it.
DeleteHi Dani-Me too! The very last of the year almost got the better of me, but I made it through without popping my cork. I am very ready to start a new year with many projects-garden, decorating and a monster closet reorganization! I am wishing you and yours a happy and content New Year. I hope you have enjoyed Old Rascal being home during the holidays. Have fun tonight!
ReplyDeleteDavid! How are you my dear! I'm happy to know you didn't pop your cork. Those sound like excellent projects. It's been nice having Old Rascal at home, he's off on a side trip in the south and did not call his mother on NYE as he was supposed to, what a rascal!
DeleteHappy new year!
I am ready to put 2012 in the books and welcome 2013! Happy New Year, Dani!
ReplyDeleteMerry Wife, I'm happy to see 2012 end as well, happy new year to you!
Deletehappy new year dani! i've really enjoyed following your blog this year! all the best for 2013! xox P
ReplyDeletePhiphi and the same to you, I've enjoyed your blog and your excellent outfits immensely!
DeleteWe had a spot of good news today - the girlfriend was discharged, so that is one less stress at the MM household!
ReplyDeleteI am cleaning up, too! And I have to think of something to bake for dessert! It turns out we have about 8 teenagers here for Mexican food!! Not the original plan, but I will go with it if all are healthy!
one of my goals is to figure out how to get back to Paris in the next couple of years and get that copper pot you show above! and the champagne bucket! I may have to take Mr. BP with me so he can hold one while I hold the other!
Tab - you need to remember that I will be turning 50 soon! I am going to drag you kicking and screaming into my festivities! Think of the advice and the drinking and food tasting that will have to occur in advance of the big day. Menu tasting, costume designing, hiring actors and extras and the odd elephant! Oh, January is going to be really busy indeed. And then you are going to have to go rest at a warm spot with one of Dani's masks over your eyes and one of those old-fashioned ice packs on your head! I will not go gentle into that good night!
Dani - if you are around and sweeping and feel like talking and sweeping, give a call!
Hi WMM, yes we must catch up properly! MrBP is an excellent Paris companion and has so much enthusiasm for copper pots, I'm sure he won't mind dragging more of them all over Paris!
DeleteThat is good news re the gf. Fingers crossed for her.
laughing over the extras and odd elephant, here goes the countdown, it's very exciting!
Happy New Year Dani! We are going to an early party and then home for the evening to ring in the New Year. Also making soup and, I think, tomato sauce. They say whatever you are doing at the start of the New Year you will be doing all year... So I think those are good things!
ReplyDeleteHere's to a good year for us all.
Jill
Hi Jill, I think your evening sounds excellent. I agree those are good things, the comforts of home and something cooking in the kitchen cannot be denied!
DeleteHappy new year!
Happy New Year, Dani. We are going to a casual house party in our neighborhood tonight. There will be kids - mostly early teens - hanging out and ringing in the new year with their parents. It is unlikely we will last until midnight as today is a work day for hubby.
ReplyDeleteI'm baking for the party and planning a visit to the SPCA today to check out the dogs. 2013 will indeed be a busy year starting off tomorrow with exercise and a much lower calorie lifestyle for yours truly. I hope you have a wonderful celebration.
Hi Julie, I'm trying to shake up my eating habits as well, I've been reading The China Study, and while I find it a bit thick and not exactly entertaining reading, the whole idea of a plant-based diet has always interested me. I'm looking for more energy, I am so often dragging my feet!
DeleteI hope you had a lovely evening and have fun looking at the pups!
Hi Dani, we are all cleaning too - well, the boys did the minimum!
ReplyDeleteThanks for another great year of your blog - I get so much pleasure out of the blogs I read, and the commenting too. Happy New Year to you and all your commenters!
Hi Patricia, Well at least they did the minimum! My son took off for a few days and imagine my surprise when I went up to his room after driving him to the airport, he didn't do any of the tidying I asked him to do!
DeleteThanks for reading my blog faithfully and commenting, it's what keeps me at it!
Happy New year, Dani to you and your family. We'll be cuddled up on the sofa with the pup and champers. Thank you for providing us with so much elegant and erudite entertainment all year, you're a little star.
ReplyDeleteHi Sulky, thanks my dear you are kind.
DeleteThanks to you for making me howl with laughter with your posts!
I am cleaning tomorrow. After a long work week, today is a day of rest for me. Like you, we're staying in tonight and enjoying home and hearth.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Dani, and all the best for 2013.
Hi DF, funny how we are all on the same page with low-key festivities and just enjoying being at home. I hope you had an excellent evening, I'll be cleaning today too.
DeleteHappy New Year Dani!
ReplyDeleteWe will be eating raclette and sipping champagne and enjoying our family.
Ina, how yummy does that feast sound, happy new year!
DeleteHappy New Year, Dani and family! We're staying in, too, I've been feeling like I'm coming down with something all week and don't want to push it.
ReplyDeleteFred, nooo don't get sick! Rest up buttercup with lots of tea and soup. Happy new year to you and Himself.
DeleteHappiness, health and joy for 2013! My sons friends are here tonight and we are all staying in and making home made pizzas!
ReplyDeleteHi AmW, happy new year to you, I bet those pizzas were delicious.
DeleteWishing you and your family a wonderful, happy and safe new year! Your night sounds just right. We are also staying in, ordering up some Thai food and watching a movie. The munchkin is too young to stay up late yet, so we already did our toasts and made up some family resolutions. I also worked on more packing/purging of my closet. ;) I'm looking forward to an exciting, but more pared down 2013.
ReplyDeleteHi M, we ended up walking over to a friend's house for a vegan feast, it was delightful. Our youngest stayed up later than I did: 12:30!
DeleteWishing you and the fams the happiest of New Years, dearest Dani!
ReplyDeleteThanks Raina and same goes out to you.
Deletenew years day is my favorite day of the year dani. a fresh start and all...
ReplyDeletedid you get my recent email re eileen fisher riding pants?
xoxo
Happy New Year Dani! We stayed at home as well, even if someone invited us to a party we wouldn't know what to do of our daughter and I would feel bad about leaving her with a babysitter on NYE (in the very unlikely case that we could find a babysitter on NYE). But we stayed up until midnight AND our daughter stayed up too to see the fireworks (she can be very determined when she wants)!
ReplyDeleteI'm so delighted 2012 is just a memory.
ReplyDeleteSpring cleaning feels like the perfect way to spend the afternoon today. Out with the old energy and in with the fresh new. 2013 holds the promise of being a fabulous year!!
A very happy 2013 to you Dani.
ReplyDeleteYour blog continues to inspire me.
Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year, Dani! :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes a quiet evening in is the best. Hope it was peaceful and relaxing.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2013!
Happy New Year to you and yours,Dani. I'm back from the holidays and looking forward to 2013 as well. Began with a white bean soup yesterday, no bread, feeling lighter already. Hope to catch up with my blog reading today after a restocking the larder trip. My closet is CRYING OUT to be cleansed!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Dani! I'm hopeful that 2013 will be the year that things start to turn around for me and my family. M and I spent New Year's day decluttering and we will continue to do so over the next few weeks. It feels good to get rid of stuff and start fresh!
ReplyDeleteHappy new year, dani!
