Brora's Legendary Sale

Here at last, it's the Brora sale we talk and dream about.
I am going to recommend their gorgeous stoles in angora and wool, so soft, light yet incredibly warm, and in beautiful colours.
Gypsy Patchwork Stole
This is mine, with the velvet trim and soft weave.

Floral Etched Stole
So pretty with shades of brown.

I wear the floral etched stole with a sweater skirt and jumper.
I also wear it with my cashmere sweater dress, it hides lumpy bits too.
I cleared out my closet recently of all the things I never wear.  I'm cranky enough now that if something irritates me, forget it, it stays in the closet.  Now my closet for winter is empty with the exception of my Brora.

I have a cold-weather uniform of a Brora skirt and jumper and it never fails me.  Add in some Brora tights, good boots, a stole and my old Brora coat and I'm good to go anywhere.

Fishtail Tweed Skirt
This skirt is stunning and has a silk lining.
The sale price is amazing.

Winter Uniform
Brora Classic Cashmere Jumper V Neck
Brora skirt and tights

Tweed Panelled Skirt
This had just arrived in the mail, I put it on and went right out for a winter walk.
Harris Tweed Hacking Jacket
I have this and I love it as much as one can love a jacket.

I've already placed my sale order and there was much agonizing over it!  In the end I bought some things for our MrBP and a few things for myself, including this stole.
Flowers in the Wind Stole
If you do place a Brora order I am sure you won't be disappointed.  Their cashmere is made in Scotland and their tailored clothes in England.  It is very difficult to find such clothes these days, I so appreciate the value and beauty of Brora.
I hope you are all well and enjoying the new year.  Tomorrow morning I take my mop over to my church to clean the kitchen.  I'm looking forward to learning a few tips from the ladies who do this every January.  Don't worry, whatever I learn I'll be passing on to you!

    1. Hi AWSL, their skirts are amazing, really warm wool and mohair fabrics and many of them lined in silk.

  2. It is a good sign when I receive something I ordered and put it on and wear it right away. If there is any hesitation, I may not keep the item. So I'll bet that panel skirt becomes a favorite! What kind of boots are those?

    1. STOLEN PLEASURES Dani, shazam, Brora skirt is so swish on you! (Was tempted yesterday by fabric and hem, but must acquire for outfits I wear most, not "Sunday" clothes.) How nice to make clean-up a community effort, the return of the "mopping party." With cate on "Wearing It Today" (that heather flax Tippi finally arrived). And have decided we're not getting more grumptastic/ picky about attire, just selective ;-)

    2. cate it is usually a sign that the item will be worn loads! Those are fluevog velvet shoes, I love them for indoors in winter, they have a sturdy heel. I've had them about 3 years I'm guessing.

  3. Their stuff looks lovely, Dani - I've just seen their email in my inbox, so I'll have a long look at it. Yes, those little boots are so cute - perfect with your tights and skirts.

    1. Sulky, the shoes are John Fluevog, they make a heeled bootie style like that periodically, suede in fall and velvet for festive, not sure what Dani's are. Know they sell in US, but not sure where? For starters, you can paw on over to their site www.fluevog.com, which also has a big semi-annual sale, on now.

    2. Yes Sulky what GF said! I bought my fluevog shoes on sale, it was some time ago, they are black velvet with a leather lining, so comfortable.

  4. Well I am so excited! My Sapphire cardigan is en route! I had another one in mind intially, then it did not actually go on sale, but never mind - it will someday! I was too slow ordering the bird stole, but took it a sign of reasonable-ness in all thinks!

I am excited to see the difference between this and my J Crew and talbots cashmere!

    1. Hi WMM, Yes a cardi I had my eye on didn't hit the sale, the summer sale is another great time to shop Brora.
I am very happy about your sapphire en route, I think you will love it.

  5. I wish I had the need to order! I look at the site and everything is so beautiful. Maybe a stole. I could get away with a stole in the desert in the winter. It does get colder here than most imagine.

Your outfits are the best. You are so fashionable and still the outfits function for your life. That can be a tough balance to achieve.

    1. Sorry DF it's like torturing you desert-dwellers! The stoles are very light and easy to wear, certainly you could have one for evenings.
      Thanks for that nice compliment!

  6. Dani, The stole is beautiful. Love the colors! Took a look at the site ,what would your recommendation be for a cardi. Do the run short? I'm not sure what would be more practical. Thanks Dani.

    1. Hi Anon, as far as the cardigans go, the cropped cardi just hits the waist and acts almost as a waist cincher over a dress. I have a few of these and I love them.
The v neck cardigans hit the hip in a slim line, some of the other styles have varying lengths, I would read the description well, they often list the length of the garment under the sizing tab.
      I hope that helps!

  7. I bought so much last year at Brora, that I'm not in need of a thing. But did buy the tartan blanket that you posted about recently in red. I wore it as a wrap on Christmas! When we got home, I put it on the bed, and my dachshunds haven't moved off of it since then - no longer mine to wear, I guess. Have been meaning to send you a photo of it with the dogs.
I've never had better cashmere sweaters than Brora, I wear one virtually daily. Gave my J.Crew cashmere to my cousin as it felt weird and slippery to me after Brora.
And Dani, you look so adorable, as always.

    1. Kathy I would love to see that photo! The great thing about Brora is that it does last, I'm definitely picking up less than I did when I first discovered them even though I wear exclusive Brora these days.
I gave my JCrew cashmere away too. It feels like it has nylon in it or something compared to the Brora!

  8. I had an early access email from Brora yesterday so quickly went to scan the sale goods but there was nothing really calling to me. Since I want to be pregnant this year I'll have to be extra careful with my clothing purchases because who knows how that will affect my figure in the long run. I will watch for the cashmere blankets to go on sale again in July and then probably buy another to give as a gift like I did for Christmas 2012. I'll be watching to see your lovely purchases, hopefully in an upcoming post.

    1. xoxo being pregnant this year will certainly affect what you wear, I wonder where you will source your maternity clothes? I'll be happy to see that, I'm crossing fingers for you!
I thought your blanket purchase was smart, that must have been a lovely gift for someone this Christmas.
I definitely shop the July sale as well, in fact I gave my daughter a hat and scarf for Christmas that I bought back in July, I'm planning to do that again!

  9. Dani, I looked at the Brora site last night, and again just now - your fishtail skirt sold out as we were sleeping!
I won't be buying anything as we need to recover from Christmas and save for vacations etc. I'm also really unsure about sizing - next time I am in Scotland the Brora shop in Edinburgh will be on my list!
I'm sure you will have lots of fun mopping with the ladies at church!

    1. Patricia, did it sell out, my goodness that was fast. Well it is a good one!
It's a really good idea to go to a Brora shop and just try things on. When you do can you also pass on a detailed report to me? :)
It was fun cleaning the church kitchen, I love those ladies. We had two men come out as well which was nice to see.

wanted to thank you for your site! I found your blog while is Paris last october. Went to Wolff and Decourtis and bought a beautiful scarf which I think is like yours, but richer color tones. Love it! ollowed your advice about Brora. Before xmas bought 3 cardis for me, and one pullover for hubby. Got the free gloves promotion and having been wearing those daily. I am in California near SF but we have been having icy weather!

    1. Hi Anon, Welcome and I am so glad you are following my posts! Wolff and Descourtis, how excellent! I wear my scarf all the time, I think it's nearly three years now and I never tire of it!
You must love your cardis and has your hubby thrown out his other sweaters yet? Mine did after I bought his first v neck sweater! He has another coming from the sale.
Nothing beats Brora for the damp cold, stay warm!

  13. Dear Dani! Could you please comment on sizing of Brora's shoes and trousers compare to JCrew? Thank you!

    1. Hi Little Scientist, for the trouser fit I have ordered size 8 in Brora and I am a size 2 in J Crew, some styles in Brora have been a little tight in the size 8, if I was to order more trousers I'd go for a 10. I would say measure yourself, the size charts on the Brora site are very good.
I've never bought shoes for Brora so I can't advise, I would phone if I were you, their customer service people are terrific!
