This Method stuff is excellent. It smells like marzipan. |
The mopping is on hold for today, Flu is in the house. I'm quite happy I spent so much time cleaning last week now that I'm down for the count. I hand-mopped all of the wood floors, dusted like mad and ended the week with a full scrub-down of the kitchen.
Does anyone else have a stair-basket?
 |
| Stair basket: brilliant invention. |
We have three full sets of stairs in our house and I'll tell you, these baskets are great. They are little holding stations for items that need to go up or down. It took me forever to find mine but I'm so glad I did. You can buy them on the interwebs, here's one
right here.
I hope your week has started well. I'll be tucked in drinking tea and making soup for my daughter. Flu be gone! I hope you don't have it.
Stay well my friends,
xoxDani
Oh no the dreaded flu! Hope it passes quickly. Dani like you I also have 3 flights of stairs ,the basket is great however I prefer your basket with the handles. Its true so many items tend to sit in a pile on the stairs and in my house I am the only one who notices that these items need to go up! Hope everyone in your home has a speedy recovery. We are supposed to get some snow tonight so perfect night to light the firearm stay put.
ReplyDeleteHi Anon, thanks so much. Yes we had snow and freezing rain yesterday, today we have rain and thunderstorms coming of all things!
DeleteFeel better soon Dani! Yes, the Method stuff is great! I also am loving mrs. Meyer's clean day all purpose in Geranium for wiping down everything. I love a stair basket as well. Have really had some good cleaning methods tested this past week, getting ready for the house showing. Clear winners were the tried and true vinegar + Dawn (blue, original) mixture for bathroom, and a solution called Awesome something or other from the Dollar store, of all places. And of course, the Mr. Clean magic erasers.
ReplyDeleteFlu be gone!
ShopwithM, I didn't know about vinegar + blue Dawn, I'm going to try that , I can tolerate most dish soaps. Thanks for the tips and the good wishes, hope everything is going well for you!
DeleteThanks, it's going well, just a bit exhausting and stressful. I've picked up some eucalyptus oil and an oil diffuser from Aveda and I'm finding it so calming and helpful. Great for congestion!
DeletePut the vinegar with a bit of the blue Dawn in one of those scrub brushes and leave it right in your bath -- I've been really pleased with the results. The dishsoap adds a bit more pleasant scent as well than plain vinegar.
Drat, sorry to hear that. I hope it passes quickly and that you are feeling better soon. I wanted a stair basket and then forgot about it, so thank you for the reminder, I will have to take a look at them.
ReplyDeleteHi Cate thanks very much, it did pass quickly.
DeleteOh dear, I hope you and your daughter feel better soon. I have never heard of stair baskets until now, thank you for the tip!
ReplyDeleteHi Louise, thank very much. These baskets are great with children in the house, a place to store all of those little Playmobil characters etc that belong upstairs.
DeleteFeel better soon!
ReplyDeleteI love stair baskets...tho my husband will trip over it, kick it, fall down the stairs, move it around and anything else he can think of before it will occur to him to ask why it's there. Even then he doesn't get it. But then he is a slob so he can't fathom actually putting things where they belong!
Hi Suburban Princess, my MrBP is not one for putting things away either but that's why he has me. He just doesn't notice, it's not malicious, it sounds like your DH is the same, it just doesn't occur to them. No-one has tripped over our stair basket yet but it wouldn't be good!
DeleteDani, hope you all feel better soon! I love Mrs. Meyers too, have not tried the Method stuff but anything that smells like marzipan is on my good list. I always find that Vicks Vaporub makes me feel better when I have a cold/flu/anything respiratory... maybe it is psychological but it works!
ReplyDeleteHi Jill, I need to get some of that Vicks. I have a cupboard for flu supplies but it's a little empty which wasn't very good when we actually were sick!
DeleteI hope you are not out of commission too long but do take care Dani this is a nasty bug.
ReplyDeleteI use that brand of wood cleaner too and love the delicate scent.
Keep hydrated an wrap up in your cash meres and stay warm.
Hi Hostess, I hope you are also on the mend nicely from your recent illness. Everyone has been sick this winter!
DeleteBoy oh boy, everyone is being felled with this, I hope you both shoo it off quickly.
ReplyDeleteStair baskets are an excellent invention but I don't have your poise when it comes to cleaning, I'm the grab and go, pile it all in my arms, drop it type.
Tabs it was very quick, I feel we didn't quite get the whole deal. We did have significant fevers on Sunday night which might have fought it off.
DeleteWe have two sets of stairs and I need a stair basket. Since reading your post, I've been looking at them online. My favorite is from The Basket Lady.
ReplyDeleteI hope all in your family have a speedy recovery. Did you have the flu vaccine?
Susan I didn't have the vaccine and I wish I had. I'm going to pencil it in my agenda for the fall so that this year I don't let it slide, I get the flu every year!
DeleteI came back to give a link to the basket I am considering for our stairs:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.basketlady.com/Stair-Step-Basket-p189.html?utm_source=amazon&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=Item%2B000687&utm_campaign=amazon
Susan thank you!
DeleteOh hope all are on the mend soon! We had one (I think we still do in the crawl space, but it seemed to attract more clutter and none of us were disciplined enough to empty it constantly. so now I am like Tabs, pile it all in my arms!
ReplyDeleteWMM they can attract clutter if they are not emptied out pretty often, like anything I guess! Much better today thank you.
DeleteHope you're feeling better soon, Dani. I have that floor cleaner as well and their granite cleaner. Bet I don't apply it with your vigour though! I wish you would give us some idea of your housekeeping routines - just to keep us all on the straight & narrow. Well, it would at least give me something to aim for!
ReplyDeleteHi Sulky, I could do a post on the cleaning routine though I often find it changes week to week depending on how hard I feel like working. Sometimes I clean like a madwoman, last week for example, this week will be bare minimum!
DeleteI hope you and your daughter get well soon. I am on the tail end of that wretched flu. The stair basket is genius though it would just be one more basket the cat thinks is his bed, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteaudreybella I hope you are all better!
DeleteI love how cats use all sorts of vessels for cozy little naps.
Hi Dani, I hope you feel better soon. We all got the flu vaccine, so we're all well so far (touch wood). This past weekend I bought a small bottle of Dr. Bronner Sal Suds - it's supposed to be this great all-purpose cleaner. I haven't tried it out yet, but the reviews are good.
ReplyDeleteMy husband uses our stairs as a kind of filing cabinet - his mail goes between the railings until such time as he takes it upstairs to his study!
Patricia, let me know how you like that cleaner!
DeleteVery smart getting the flu shot, I promised myself I would do that this year and then I didn't take the time, quite foolish of me.
Dani feel better soon. I always load up on chewable Vitamin C. I have thought about a stair basket and have seen one in the Ballard Design catalogs. It would be put to good use I am sure!

Hi Karen, it is a handy thing, my office is at home so I have lots of paperwork that needs filing upstairs, the stair basket corrals everything perfectly.
DeleteThis has been one of the worst flu seasons! I hope you feel better soon, Dani.
ReplyDeleteHi DF, it has been a bad one, the vaccine this year had a 50% effectiveness here. Of course I didn't get it and should have.
DeleteOh... I hope you are able to rest WITH your daughter -- sleep is even better than homemade chicken soup!
ReplyDeleteHi audreys, well I did rest all day. It's difficult to rest with kids sick in the house but my older daughter was home studying for exams and she helped me, bless her!
DeleteSad to hear you and your daughter are under the weather. Hopefully you get well soon. I've been around so many sick people in the office and everywhere the past couple of months but so far haven't succumbed but it sure seems to be rampant.
ReplyDeleteI have not tired the method products but I love the smell of some Simple Green product that our house cleaner uses, it smells just like root beer!
Hi xoxo, so happy you've avoided the flu. I wonder what your secret is. I tend to get the flu pretty often, I wish I could find the secret to boosting immunity!
DeleteI, too, have three sets of full staircases in my house. I've been looking for stair baskets for years.
ReplyDeleteKDot, it took me forever to find my basket, I finally saw it in a store here and I bought it straightaway.
DeleteWishing you and yours speedy recoveries. I saw people wearing masks in Whole Foods today, whether for their protection or ours I don't know. Tea and broth is pretty much all you can do.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Meyers lemon verbena spray is my favorite weapon; cleans the slate counters without a residue.
Hi Lane, I wish I was wearing a mask at the doctor's office last week. I like Mrs. Meyers products but I've not tried that one, I'll have a look for it!
DeleteI hope you two are back on your feets soon! And let me know if you need Raina's Magic Matzoh Balls overnighted for that soup.
ReplyDeleteRaina yes please send the Matzoh balls!
DeleteWe all had the flu last week. How nice that your house is clean, so you can rest and not worry. In those extreme temperatures you are better off snug in a warm bed! Babyganics makes an organic bathroom cleaner that literally melts away shower residue. I leave it on overnight(quite a bit) and by the next morning everything is clean, with no scrubbing.
ReplyDeleteHi Knityarns, thanks for the tip I'm going to look for that, I can't tolerate most bathroom cleaners and they need such regular cleaning. I hope you recovered completely from your flu.
DeleteAh too bad ...everyone seems to be getting this bug. Hope it 's over soon . I have that basket but it's in the garage until Finn can be trusted. For some reason he tried to attack it but he was caught in the act Puppies = mischief!
ReplyDeleteHi Marsha, it's been a nasty year for the flu, I think our fevers fought it off. I was at my doctor last week having some tests scheduled and I was surrounded by really sick hacking people, I'm not surprised I picked up the bug.
DeleteOh that Finn what a mischief maker!
Hope you all get well soon, dani!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rose!
DeleteHi Dani,
ReplyDeleteI hope you all get better soon! Flu is no fun at all. We are all good and I like to think it is because of my juicing and the extra Vitamin C I feed my gang :-) Take care!
Hi Steph, I'm thinking more about your juicing efforts after having this flu, it's time to get some serious vitamins on the go!
DeleteBOO FLU Dani, echoing the "Feel better fast!" Glad you found a Method product you like; my experience has been mixed. But don't love the scent of staple vinegar so may seek out your marzipan option for a little floor duty aromatherapy. Sending warm, rested thoughts your way.
ReplyDeleteHi GF, it's a great floor cleaner for wood as it adds some moisture back in, necessary these days with the dry indoor air. Boo to the flu indeed, fevers are gone and that was our worst symptom.
DeleteI hope you and your family feel better soon, Dani!
ReplyDeleteHi Abby, we are much better thank you so much.
DeleteFeel better soon, but take it slowly and don't rush it either. My mother has a stair basket and keeps magazines in it? Curious what other people put in theirs - I have no idea what I'd use one for?
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, our fevers are gone and today we are nearly 100%, just feeling a bit drained but not sick anymore. That was a quick flu thank goodness.
DeleteI have an office on the third floor so I often put my mail in the stair basket so I can pick it up on my way up to my desk. Any little things left around that actually belong on the second or third floor I just stick in the basket. Sometimes things go in there and are not needed right away, I have to de-clutter it once a week or so.
