Skunks and Snails

Skunk Blouse
We've got some new arrivals online at J.Crew so I thought I'd have a run-through to see what we might find interesting.
The animal motif continues on, this time we've got skunks on a blouse, and a skirt.
Skunk Skirt
As you know I am not shopping J.Crew at all on account of the fact that I am scarred for life by the pink skirt fiasco.
However, if I was having une coupe de champagne on an empty stomach I might consider the Escargot Bikini.
It's a bikini with snails all over it.
This has seriously cheered me up.
I was feeling bolstered by the escargot but then made the mistake of clicking into the jewelry section.
This frightens me half to death.
These jewelry pieces make me think of those anxiety dreams I have in which all of my teeth fall out and I'm trying to catch them before they hit the floor.
My Gosh!

For Pity's Sake!
I saw a  pink lace dress which brought me back to thoughts of the pink skirt again, surely I will never recover.
Pink Polyester.
The only things I saw which I liked even a bit were the most non-descript items.
 A very plain spring jacket.
Whoop Dee-Doo
 More jeans from Goldsign.

Goldsign did a skirt for J.Crew this go-around.
I can't wear jean skirts, it's impossible to run in them.

One of the nicer things I bought last year from J.Crew was a linen blazer (lined in cotton) in white.
They've brought it out again, this time in different colours.
I like the blue but I find the pink a little cotton-candy and therefore limiting.  Unless you are mad for pink that is.

Let's hope they haven't ruined the linen blazer by lining it in polyester.

Please tell me what you like and what you don't, you needn't hold back!

  1. The lips and teeth jewelery freaked me out as well. What on earth are they thinking and who on earth would buy such things?

I like the Goldsign denim skirt but I have the Altazarra version, which is quite close in style. I saw similar Barbour jackets while shopping in Brussels on my recent trip. They were nice but rather unremarkable. Nothing for me this time round but I did post a few Madewell and Anthro new arrivals on my blog this morning.

    1. xoxo I think I like the Altazarra skirt better, this one looks super heavy and clunky, like Sulky said a Thigh Straightjacket.
Nothing exciting in the Barbour jackets I agree, I have one which is great for walks, but only one is needed really and they do last.

  2. I think i actually like the lulu frost bracelet:)
There are some things i want, like the micro tweed jacket,a floral tee and some basic tees.

    1. Ina oh no do you like it! I'm sorry then. The floral tee will be popular I'm guessing, and the micro tweed is a nice one.

  3. You know, I saw that necklace on another blog this morning, but I didn't notice that it's all teeth! I'm sorry, there's no way I want snails all over my swimwear, even if they are French! I did used to love Pepe Le Pew cartoons, but, well, no.
I really like the blue linen jacket, the jeans and the quilted jacket though.
Have a nice day - did the snow storm go through your place as well last night?

    1. Patricia I think the escargot bikini is pretty weird. The lippy-teeth pieces are truly terrifying and awful.

  4. There is so much I don't like I would not know where to begin. I do however really like the neon violet linen perfect shirt-IF- the color translates well in person. I also like the Gabby suede sandals-a chunky heel works well for me. The color block convertible clutch looks cute-again-if the colors look nice IRL. Other than that...nothing.

    1. Julie those linen perfect shirts are usually very nice, I have one in blush pink that I war quite a bit in the summer.

  5. I was unimpressed. I went through it all twice thinking I had missed something. My thoughts?

    1) teeth jewellry is scary and belongs in Pirates of the Caribbean movies
    2) skunks belong on children's clothing - maybe - not even convinced of that
    3) why put the damn hummingbird skirt on the site if it is already sold out? Just makes me cross!
    4) i really liked the linen blazer in bronzed moss and hope to try one on in NYC if I can find one. Classic and simple.
    5) everything looks to me like it will be cheap very quickly...

    1. The teeth jewelry looks like something a rapper would design but then again, I suppose the teeth would be gold in that case.

    2. WMM, grinning at 1-2 and thanks for letting me snark early this morning. To each his own, but I'm not seeing a lot.

    3. xoxo can you imagine how hideous it would be in gold, not that it can get much worse. WMM I do like the bronzed moss colour in that blazer, good thing you'll be able to see it in person though, it could be much different as we well know!

    4. My daughter thinks that skunks are "disgusting", there is no way she would like them on her clothes!

    5. I will take a picture of that blazer in person if I see it just so folks can know, because it does have potential!

  6. I like the fit of Goldsign jeans. The teeth are terrifying to me as well. I wonder if their young clientele will snap them up. Not a fan of bubble gum pink and I don't care for animal patterns on my garments. In fact my wardrobe is dominated by solids with the occasional polka dot, or striped item. The only place I seem to like patterns is in my scarves!

  8. Those lip things are terrifying! I have a soft spot for the skunk blouse, though I wouldn't wear it, it's just so daft it makes me smile.

  10. I did purchase the men's sunwashed fleece hoodie in mountain white. It is perfect to throw on when the sun goes down and you're in shorts and a tee. I do like that they are bringing back some graphic tees. I liked the collared eyelet tee...just not for me, could see daughter wearing it. I would catch so much crap from family if I wore any of those jewelry pieces.

    1. BB I thought the same thing about the eyelet tee, it would be very nice on my daughter!

  11. Love the hummingbird print and that is about it. Would have loved the print in a scarf. That would be be such a pretty spring accent. J crew has put the print on everything else, why not a scarf? Doesn't make sense.

  12. I like the look of the jeans. That jewellery is pretty awful - the only thing that would make it look better is a few blows from a hammer. I know what you mean about the denim skirt - it looks heavy and restrictive, a straitjacket for your thighs.

  14. WHAT LITTLE SALES ARE MADE OF Dani, I already snarked about skunks at WMM. So I will simply echo by noting all of your picks except jacket are other brands - Barbour etc. and not unique to JC. And it's a shame about the Halloween wax lips Lulu jewelery as many of their regular pieces, which I have seen in person, are lovely. Definitely off the Crew as I didn't even get excited at bird print on blouse. However, a few things, like peony tee Ema had on yesterday, are lovely, but really just redux of past years rose tee etc.

    1. GF I wondered if you'd like the bird blouse. Blechh none of it appeals, and good point my picks are other brands with exception of linen blazer.

  15. I liked a lot. I like the Embroidered Eyelet Tank in Ivory, the Twisted Stitch Sweater, the Peony and Purple Poppy Tees. The Bright Droplet Necklace has potential, but knowing J. Crew it will turn out to be neon when it looks perfectly normal on the web site. I like the Lillian Wedges in Honey Brown and the Petunia sweaters, all way overpriced. I like the Liberty Shorts in Chive Floral (pink). The Stripe Shirttail Dress. The Loretta Dress in Eyelet, although it would look too little-girl-ish on me. Catie dress in Navy has potential, if not too short-waisted. I like the skunks, but wouldn't buy them, it might send the wrong message (people might start sniffing around to check if I am stinky). The Lulu mouth jewelry scares me. If you are not scared enough already, look at their scary eyeball jewelry here: http://lulufrost.com/shop

  16. Although I did enjoy Pepé Le Pew cartoons as a child, I never want to advertise or associate myself with an animal that emits such a strong, foul odor. Both of my long haired dogs had the misfortune of being sprayed by a skunk once and we had a heck of a time removing that god awful stench. J Crew what were you thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't get the snails at all, especially over a bikini. but I am strangely attracted to the lips pin (wouldn't buy though).
It is fun to look at new arrivals and read everybody's comments. I like those crazy expensive painter floral pants and the bikini but besides the peony tee and maaaaybe the peter pan collar tee there is nothing I will buy FP. I am already a bit over the hummingbirds, I tried the dress and looked matrony in it plus that color isn't very flattering on me so the blouse is out too.

  18. The more I think about that jewelry, the more I think it's just funny, kind of like the skunks :) I would get so many strange comments if I left the house wearing any of it!

  19. The teeth are terrifying...don't think I would want to wear skunks or snails...at least the shape of the skunk skirt is summery. I think that so far the new arrivals are not very inspiring. Maybe they have jumped the shark? (But no sharks on shirts).

    1. Jill I wouldn't mind seeing the skunk fabric, apparently it's silk and spandex? I hope I can read a review of it somewhere.

  20. The jewellery is really, really weird! Gosh! I love the Barbour jacket, so classic, so versatile! And for clothes, it is where I stand at the moment... Timeless pieces that will never disappoint... Classic cut, classic, yet brilliant fabrics... Same for the shoes...

    1. Hi Steph, I'm with you, it's all about the fabrics, so amusing motifs etc don't impress, get the basics right and then thrill us with a creative pattern or design.

  21. Hi Dani-Nope, not much at JC for me anymore. That jewelry would only be appropriate for the dentist Jennifer Aniston played in the movie about awful bosses. I am so tired of all these overly bright colors-not everyone wants to dress like a box of Chicklets. Dani, you are always singing the praises of Goldsign jeans, would you mind describing the fit? Do they have any stretch to them, or are they all cotton? Can't trust JC's descriptions as you well know!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi David, they have a wee bit of stretch to them, but the cotton is very soft and what I like most about them is the fit. They are not super low rise and they actually nearly fit my waist, I normally have terrible gapping because of my hip. When I tried them I didn't want to like them because of the price, but I'm glad I kept them, they are the only pair of jeans I own.

  22. The skunks baffle me a bit, they just make me think of bad smells, and that's not something I want people to associate with me! The teeth items are horribly frightening to me, and I love that someone said it looks like a rapper designed them, lol! There were a lot of no's for me, though I did still manage to post a list of items I do like.

I like the linen blazer, but don't need one. I love the peony tee, and imagine it will be very popular. If it had been cotton, I'd probably have skipped it, but the linen is a nice choice. I'm not a shorts person, but with a little one, they are a necessary evil sometimes, so I might spring for the cheery liberty print shorts. I do like the cotton eyelet top as well -- eyelet always makes me feel happy and feminine.

I've been skipping over all the jewelry and shoes lately, as I can't stand the neon plastic-y nonsense, and don't like the chunky and gold heels at all.

  23. Dahling, I adore the dentata bling, it's so Dada! This collection is inspired by a kinky line of jewellry that Salvatore Dali and Elsa Schiaparelli designed in the 30's. I would definitely wear it, but then, I'm a bit eccentric.

    1. I agree: love the jewelry and yet I think that the JCrew customer may miss the allusions and hence it was poor selection on JCrew's part..... doubt they will go to sale but I can hope!

  24. There were actually some pretty pieces in the store, but I agree- some of the choices are head scratch-ers. I can't imagine ever needing to be parted from my money so terribly that I would choose those Lulu Frost pieces. Dali-esque or not, there are certain things I can admire in a gallery that definitely have no place in my wardrobe. Did you ever get reimbursed for the skirt shipping fee?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi KnitYarns, yes I did get reimbursed for my shipping cost, and they changed the copy online "even though the skirt has sold out". This was the only acknowledgement they gave to their glaring false copy.
