Kitchen Themes

The move away from Christmas themes has begun in the centre of the Universe, aka the kitchen.
I spent yesterday afternoon sorting away the Christmas dishes while bringing out our everyday dishes and adding in a new kitchen theme.  What's the next holiday on the horizon?  Well, Valentine's Day of course.
Over the years I've picked up various bits of Emma Bridgewater pottery, and as the collections merge into each other year after year it's not difficult to build up some cheerful themes.
I've stored chocolates in that heart-shaped tin for years, typically in the pantry cupboard, but until Valentine's Day it will take pride of place on the kitchen shelves.
I really love these winter floral mugs, they provide a pretty transition between the absolute festivity of Christmas to the long winter ahead (which, let's face it, will be quite grey at times).
Our everyday dishes are a blue and cream gingham check by Johnson Brothers.  I've added in bits of Mason Cash and that lovely Polish Pottery to these dishes, as well as some blue Emma Bridgewater.
Love this biscuit tin too with the combination of purply florals and red bits!  A biscuit tin on the shelf always looks cozy, it looks like a cup of tea.

Speaking of tea, it was a sad day when we broke the lid of my favourite polka dot teapot, but I've replaced it with the lid from another Emma Bridgewater teapot: it doesn't match, yet it sort of does.
Our butter dish's lid came to a similar tragic end, now I use it to prop up my recipe cards on the counter.

I've set up a little hot chocolate station below the kitchen shelves: vanilla marshmallows and hot chocolate mix.
Hot chocolate?
The nice thing about this new kitchen theme is that I don't have to put away some of my favourite bits of kitchen red quite yet, like the Mason Cash bowl and the red Le Creuset teapot.  Putting away Christmas is always a little sad, it's good to keep the kitchen theming going.
On to more housework today and some bill-paying and admin.  I definitely need to cook up something hot and comforting for dinner tonight, maybe a chickpea and vegetable stew with dumplings?  I'll keep you posted.
Have a lovely day today.
