Mop Philosophy Monday

How's your week shaping up?  Any big plans?  Lists as long as your arms?
I got caught up with some work yesterday so today I have more time for meal-planning and poking around in the garden.
Last week I made this roasted tomato and asparagus salad, you can throw in bocconcini if you are so inclined.
Roasted tomato and asparagus salad.
With lots of herbes de Provence.
Last week I rearranged our kitchen shelves.  I love using this small set of shelves to change up the colour scheme of the kitchen, and to bring out things I use seasonally.

But why did I put that electrical plug on the first shelf?
Kitchen shelves.
With an electrical plug in an odd place.
It's even a bit crooked.
When we designed the kitchen I had an older radio that I used to listen to the cbc, and the shelf seemed the perfect place for just such a radio.

But times change... do they ever.  I should have known that a wifi, hands free, robot thing was going to enter my life... sooner rather than later.
"Hey Siri"
"Mm-hmm" (it actually says mm-hmm)
"Can you please play me some Classic Rock?"
Can you see my new HomePod?  It's the grey thing on the far right.  If I talk to it it pretty much anything I want to listen to blasts from it.  That little thing really puts out an incredibly clear sound.

The uncomfortable thing is the talking to it.  I feel so rude just barking orders at it.  It makes no difference, I know it rationally, if I say please to a robot but I feel like a jerk just ordering it around.

Do you feel weird talking to robots?

Happy Monday, may your week be filled with civility.

  1. I find the crooked electric plug adds some charm to the shelves ~ crazy? What brand of robot thing is that? I would love one but I'm a bit technically challenged.

    1. It's the Apple HomePod. I have to say I do love it even though it's an adjustment for me to talk to it... I've never been into using Siri on my iPhone though. But with this thing it is voice controlled.
I've been looking for a good speaker to play my Apple Music collection for years, this is the perfect thing. Very easy to set up and use I am not techy!
Maybe it does add some charm, thanks K xxx

  2. It's good to know I'm not the only one who says please to robots! I always thank them too.

  3. I don't talk to robots knowingly. Siri i have never spoken to. Alexa is evil me thinks. Facebook bots fight with each other already. I am scurred Dani!

  4. I have a radio in our kitchen and I listen to the CBC.
I was in the car with my husband and he was saying something to Siri on his Iphone and I spilled my coffee and uttered a profanity and Siri said no there's no reason to use that kind of language!
I have a few outlets that are placed in odd locations and are crooked as well...very wabi-sabi.

    1. Wow so Siri likes to reprimand does she! Funny my hubs has talked to Siri for years and it's kind of annoying but now here I am talking to this thing... I've had to take a break from listening to the news constantly because it is so depressing. Now I'm listening to NYT's daily podcast on the robot and that's about it. Lots of CSNY otherwise, very soothing. xxx

  5. Lovely open kitchen shelves, perfect display space. Regarding the outlet, considering positioning a framed piece of art in that spot. I've seen this done in shelving and it looks quite nice. Yes, to the world of robots! I love my Roomba vacuum cleaner! Susan

  7. I love roasted tomatoes, it's my favorite summertime dish and goes on top of most anything. I'm also a big fan of any robot that wants to vacuum my floor but they don't do uneven floorboards well from what I understand. I should give one a test to keep up with the kitty shedding season that is well underway.

    1. TerriLynn13 I wonder how to prevent the robot vacuum from falling down the stairs? But maybe they have the AI for that built in! xxx

  8. I can't even talk to Siri. It seem too weird. I'm forever a luddite. I love the elephant vase. What a cheerful piece. You have the loveliest home. XO

    1. Jen it is weird. I'm stuck with it now with this thing though. If the sound out of it wasn't so spectacular I might have returned it. Thank you that vase is from Wayfair, not spensive at all! xxx

  9. Am also scurred of companies hearing me talk in my house - I suppose I'm less scared of Apple than of Facebook, Google or Amazon, just because Apple is good at client software (what we touch) and TERRIBLE at the backend;).

    1. Lisa it does seem like a really bad idea when you think about it. But I have to say we love the quality of the music though of course I was already set up with my Apple Music membership etc. It has some bad reviews though- apparently those other robot voice gadgets do a better job with the intelligence tasks etc. But they might be better listeners too! xxx

  10. Dani just catching up finally on your posts! We have an Amazon Echo and I only use it for music like you do. My husband thinks it's great and asks it all sorts of things and the kids use it as a kitchen timer when cooking. I honestly freak a little when we aren't using it al all and it will suddenly say, 'I'm sorry I didn't hear that.' I told the hubs I think Putin is listening. LOL. Your kitchen looks beautiful. I love your pottery! I do hate electrical plates and my last kitchen had at least 11 plates in the backsplash willy-nilly which really bugged me. In the new kitchen I want them all hidden- either under the cabinets or on the counter flat? Otherwise I will try I put something in front of them. Hope you're having a nice summer Dani. xo

  11. Hi Dani! Longtime reader here. I've noticed your Instagram has gone private - I hope it isn't due to trolls or anything unpleasant. Hope you have a good summer!

PS I'm too chicken to have an Alexa!
