Mop Philosophy...Wednesday

Well it looks like I missed Mop Philosophy Monday and due to the scheduling of my new volunteer job this will likely occur again over the next weeks.  Mop Philosophy Wednesday doesn't quite have the same ring but it may have to do.  How do you like these wee roses on MrBP's nightstand?  $6 a bunch at the grocery, that's the price of a bar of soap these days.
Except that I found my favourite bar soap real cheapie - $3!  Of course I had to go to a slightly dishevelled looking health food store to source it but never mind, I'll be back.  Anyone else a fan of Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps?

How about a cozy Brora closet in soothing shades of heath?
I know you must be wondering how Rebecca is doing.
The autumn leaves seem to suit her complexion just fine.

I planted Greek Oregano early in the summer and it went silly.
I brought it inside to dry for the winter.
How about the Mop Philosophy Book Club?  Let's read Little Women.  I haven't read it in many years, how about you?
One of the many fine things about this book: the chapter titles.  Like Amy's Valley of Humiliation, which is chapter 7.
What do you say, should we have our next meeting on Saturday December 14th?  We're all busy and that gives us plenty of time.
What's next?  Well I have been working on some wardrobe posts: the coats, the handbags and other favourite subjects... but how about an autumn edition of Dinner Menu To Avoid Crying?

I'm happy to report that I hosted a large dinner party on Saturday evening past and I didn't shed one tear!  It was all smiles.  Evidence:
Brora Cropped Cardigan
Miu Miu Silk Dress
JCrew Kiki Ballet Flats
Accessorized with a giant tray of vegetables and a Hermes enamel bangle.
Come back tomorrow for the menu and preparation tips.
Enjoy your day Tooties!

    1. Hostess well I wore the apron all day, but I have to take it off before the guests arrive, some people don't find it very stylish though I'm not one of them!

  2. Nice outfit! And lovely kitchen colours as a backdrop.

  3. Gorgeous Dani! I love those soaps too. I meant to ask you on mop philosophy day if you've ever tried Norwex cleaning cloths? My sister swears by them, no cleaning solutions necessary. I'll be trying them out myself asap.

Little Women ranks as on of my all-time favorites. I've read it a million times, and can't wait to do so again. I remember reading it for a school book report very young, and was alone amongst a sea of Babysitters Club books!

  5. Little women..I was wondering when you were going to announce the next book :)

You look like the thinner Nigella ( that is a compliment by the way as some don't like her so I thought I should clarify.)

I went through a phase of mixing my own solutions accordingly of liquid bonners soap...Those roses look lovely by the way!

    2. Naomi I'm not, I've thought about it though and funny you should ask, I was on the site today, do you think it's worthwhile?

    3. I only just signed up but there are definite pluses to it - sometimes one thinks a pic doesn't deserve a post but it does merit an instagram. Still getting a hang of it but I enjoy other's pics.

  6. You are glowing Dani, the dinner must have been wonderful. Love your vegetable "accessories", LOL! I've been drying herbs recently too. Although we have been using it regularly I have enough dry parsley for a lifetime. Good thing it is so versatile.

    1. xoxo I was a fool not to plant parsley this summer! It's good in everything. Thanks very much the dinner was a success.

  7. Thanks for the reminder - I need to bring in a bit more herbs! It has been busy here as well! You look beautiful! So love that outfit and am anxious to hear all about the dinner party!

Not familiar with the soaps. EVERYTHING makes me break out so I stick to dove unscented. I must talk to Louise about that!!!

Little Women - I have only read it twice, so really, it deserves another reading and pre-Christmas is perfect!!!!!

    1. WMM I thought it would be a good book running up to the holidays... how's your lavender? Have you harvested much? Are you drying it?

    2. WMM, when I turned 30, never having had any allergies, I became allergic to everything. I have a long list of recommendations for you!

  8. I'll try to use WMM's ideas for getting a book read so I'll try to join you all for Little Women! You look radiant, it must have been an excellent dinner party :)

    1. Hi cate, it was fun and interesting people as well. The key was I was completely prepared ahead of time so no stress, no crying!

  9. Love Dr B soap, esp the liquid lavender one, peppermint for the outdoor shower. As these are castile soaps , they usually agree with sensitive skin.

Perfect hostess look! What was the main course?

    December 14 on the calendar.

  10. You look absolutely gorgeous Dani! I don't know this book and I will have a look at it... I tried Dr. Bronner's liquid soap and it was quite drying my skin, but I think I used the wrong one... And I love so much your Bridgewater teapot! If Wendy comes here, Anita and Roger (in the 101 Dalmatians movie - not cartoon) have a jug with the exact same pattern :-)

    1. Hi Steph, the liquid soap is a bit drying I agree, I find the bar soap much nicer. We have so much in common with our tastes, we both love Brora and Bridgewater!

  11. You look gorgeous, Dani! I must admit, I am envious: whenever I have to host a dinner party (never my idea, always my husband's!), I always look completely frazzled by the time the food is on the table!

    1. Louise I can help with that! I used to get frazzled and then it got worse and I actually cried. No more tears, check back tomorrow for my menu, it can easily take you through fall and winter dinner parties.
And then your husband can do the clean-up ;)

  12. Little Women it is. I have only read it once and that was when I was a young girl. I took my Chanel bag out for a stroll today and thought of you...very kind thoughts. Love the flowers and you look radiant in the picture. Look up Ice milk Aprons..expensive but lovely aprons when hostessing. I have given them as gifts and they are a wonderful company.

    1. BB it will be fun to read it again won't it! Chanel out for a stroll, thatta girl! That cheers me up no end! I will check out that apron company, a good one is worth the expense for the clothes it saves along the way... off to look for them now, thanks BB!

  13. FUN! Little Women made me cry when I was a wee one, don't know what's going to happen now as a grown up (???) I keep telling myself that one of these days I'm going to do book club with you ladies but always run out of time!
Love the flowers, love the Brora and more than anything, love that picture of you! You look gorgeous. I am a fan on Dr. Bronners. I hear of people using it for laundry, especially their silks and woolens/cashmere but I have yet to have the courage. It is truly one of the best and most natural companies out there. And for whatever it's worth, I love "Mop Philosophy Wednesdays"!

    1. Thanks AB you are kind! I'm going to buy the liquid soap and try it on my pyjamas, the lavender formula smells so good and I've wondered about using it for laundry, thanks for the tip!
I'm going to cry for sure when I read it again, it's very emotional, yet such a young-woman classic I think we're going to enjoy reading it as a group!

  15. Lovely post Dani! Chock full! I haven't read Little Women since a was a girl, far too long ago! I will look out for the soap, if it's not too drying, as my climate reduced my skin to crepe. And look forward to your Menu of Serenity...I learnt long ago to ruthlessly organize myself before any dinner party, and usually have a three day plan, in order to get the cleaning, shopping and cooking all done before the guests arrive...yes, there were tears here too! Love MP Wednesday: it lifts the lull in the week. Enjoy the rest of yours, beautiful hostess.

  16. You are a classy dame- even your tray of vegetables is alluringly chic. I must have read little women at some point, but I don't remember much. However I had a pretty hardcover copy of 'little men' that I read over and over! Sort of a sequel... I think that's an excellent holiday suggestion! (OMG...we're not there yet, are we?! Too soon!)

  18. Dani, you look so elegant and chic! Love this outfit. The dress is divine. I would love a close up of the bangle. I've become a bit Hermes obsessed.

Thank you for the menu and preparation suggestions. I am a basic cook at best, my husband does most of the cooking in our house. I make a meal about once a month and this seems like a menu I can tackle on my own and impress him.
