Mop Philosophy Monday

 Any big plans this week?

I'll be busy with you-know-who:
Scout in a JCrew scarf.
Still not impressed with the camera.
I think these sliced baked potatoes make for an interesting presentation:
Well let's face it, parsley is the perfect accessory to any food.

Are you an avocado fan?  MrBP is the only person I know who is allergic to avocado.
You also couldn't pay him to eat a banana.
Let's imagine we're having drinks in Paris:
 Or maybe dessert:

I've been fiddling around with some high-end beauty products.  Predictably they are quite amazing.   I especially like that Chanel CC cream.
I've been treating my Brora cashmere like gold, it's been keeping me toasty all this long winter.
The Laundress sure makes nice things for clothes-care.
I've been dreaming, dreaming about what I will wear in springtime, how about you?  These grey tortoise Salvatore Ferragamo Vara pumps are playing a prominent role in these daydreams:
More on shoes this week.  What are you dreaming of these days?  I encourage outfit daydreams wholeheartedly, it's an excellent antidote to anxiety.
Keep calm and have an excellent Monday,
xoxDani

  1. Scout looks so adorable in that scarf... And perhaps a little less suspicious of the camera?
I'm with Mr BP. I loathe both avocado and banana, but am only allergic to banana, not avocados.
I'm feeling as if a bit of a detox is in order. Far too much debauching over the past week or so.
Expensive Skincare items are lovely, but I try not to succumb to them. I just don't believe that a cream can possibly deliver all the stuff that they usually claim! Still, it's nice to have a play with high-end.
Your Ferragamos are lovely. I really hope your weather improves soon!

    1. Ruth thanks but I don't think it will. I caught your post briefly this morning and Happy Birthday! Well of course a bit of mischief is in order on one's birthday. I think you're right about skincare, I swear by Nuxe which is a french drug store brand. Not too expensive. My problem is I ordered some Chanel makeup and now I love it. I don't think I can go back to the cheaper stuff!

    2. I also love Chanel makeup, but for skin care I swear by Dermalogica. I developed a nasty case of *crappy skin* last year, and the only product that helped (and I tried a plethora of them) was Dermalogica. Have a great week, Dani !

  2. Hassleback potatoes were my favourites growing up. I love avocados, I had to cut down on them because I ate so many that my potassium levels were raised!
Scout is adorable in her scarf, she is very brave to go out for walkies in all that snow.
Oh yes I am looking forward to spring clothes, just going out in a jumper and boots without a coat and feeling light.

    1. Oh I don't want to scaremonger against avocados, I was on a silly low carb diet, that's what precipitated it all, almost collapsed - twice - before I stopped - fool!

    2. Tabs that's what they're called, I always forget! Okay how many were you eating? More than one a day? No coat? Waaa!

  3. These days I'm dreaming of spring. We had snow again last night, if you can believe it.

I love avocado - in fact I had half of one tonight.

Scout looks adorable. Who knew JC is fashionable on pooches too?

  4. I love your flowers and Scout looks terrific! I am still dreaming of a true winter, which it seems we will not get this year, so I am dreaming of my garden and what I will grow in it once the Spring arrived. I love, love avocado and bananas! I will have avocado today for lunch :-)
Are you preparing your Spring outfits?

    1. Hi Steph, I am preparing outfits just to distract myself from this long winter! I'm going crazy! I sold so many pairs of shoes, 10 pairs, it's true. I've been sourcing some new ones on ebay and one pair that I have paid full price for, the heel heights of the Ferragamo's are so wearable for me and they fit like a glove on my slightly narrow foot.
It sounds like your super-healthy diet is going well. I hope you are feeling good!

  5. I'm in a sundress and sandals again today, and thinking about the fact that it is Autumn officially here, which is ridiculous as it won't get cold for another 2 months at least.
Love those Ferragamos. I think shoes are a good alleviator of anxiety too. Plus they always make me feel happy. I have a new pair of suede knee high boots from LK Bennett, that I can't wait to wear as they have a lovely side effect of giving me longer looking legs.xx

    1. Heidi your boots sound luscious! When it cools down you'll have to share them with us. I have a real thing for tortoise patterned shoes, I bought a brown tortoise pair of Ferragamo driving shoes on ebay as well as the grey beauties.
      A sundress! I can't even imagine!

  6. Scout is so cute - I am going to dress Millie up too!! But Millie also doesn't like the camera funny enough. Allergic to avocado??? no guacamole? holy moley. But those taters look very nice - but where is the butter? Just mentioning Angelina makes me get sugar coma - that hot choc is so rich no? Love those tortoiseshell shoes and they are so you! x

    1. Naomi I think that Scout thinks the camera is a giant eye-monster. Don't worry there was lots of melted butter all over those potatoes, I made some for my in-laws too, they are simple but look fancy. I never did have the hot choc at Angelina though it is so famous! That pic was taken at the Angeline cafe in the Louvre, I highly recommend, it was one of our best lunches the last time we were in Paris.

  7. Too funny - my daughter is disgusted by bananas as well! Scout looks wonderful. I am sticking with my nars and happily so! It is good to try new things!

    1. Wendy when do you have to come home? It's -30 here this morning! The sun is out but we are popsicles! It's getting a bit tiring to always be so cold. Good thing I have a puppy or I'd just stay inside until spring.

  8. The tulips are so gorgeous. That is a flower that makes me think of spring. Scout is beyond adorable! The scarf is charming. I tried getting a coat on my little fellow when we went to the mountains. He acted like one of those fainting goats, went stiff legged and refused to move.

I didn't know avocados could raise your potassium levels, Tabitha! I eat at least one a day. I love them in salads, spread on toast, or just eaten out of the shell with a spoon.

The only thing on my spring list is a light silk shawl or scarf. I have my eye on one by Erdem. His designs and colors are amazing. I'm trying not to buy shoes since I don't need any. Those Ferragamos are gorgeous. Cannot wait to see what outfits you make with them.

    1. Scout is not a fan of wearing scarves but on the very cold days I've been winding it around her neck when we go for a longer walk. MrBP refuses to let me buy her a coat or sweater! I think Tabs was eating more than one a day, I eat lots of avocado, I believe it's excellent for the skin. Good idea on a silk shawl. I'll be at Hermes next week and plan to have a look around. I've bought some shoes but no clothes, after the big closet edit I don't have it in me. I ordered some things but sent them all back, the Vara pumps are another story, the heel height is brilliant. Sourced ebay for some deals, I'll post on it!

    2. GF I will be ordering coats for cold and for rain for our dear Scout. I think red suits her how about you? Anon provided an excellent link. The problem with no-coat-on-Scout is that I have to limit outdoor time to less than 5 minutes on these cold days which she does not like, being an outdoors kind of dog.
We're trying to arrange a getaway which might bring us near Hermes. Of course this is not easy for us so it may not happen but I'll keep you posted.

  12. Hi Dani, love the array of photos this morning, those flowers are beautiful. For skincare right now I'm into Indeed Labs, a Canadian company that does minimal packaging and almost no advertising it seems, but has really good ingredients. The hydraluron gel under moisturiser makes a real difference, I find. (And you can buy the products in Shoppers.)

I'm trying to have a green smoothie every day, including avocado, feels very healthy!

  14. I am dreaming of spring night and day, waiting for the opportunity to wear open-toe shoes, or any shoes instead of clunky winter boots. We had -38 here last weekend. A friend and I have plans to go dog sledding so it better warm up. The thinking is that we have several weeks of winter left so may as well embrace it. We'll see how that goes. I may end up wanting to choke winter more so than give it a hug.

I think dogs are perplexed but the whole photography business. We hold up this little thing and our voice maybe changes a bit, we are looking at them and they are waiting for something to happen but from their perspective, nothing does. I started giving our dog praise and a few pets after taking his photo and now he is OK to pose, for about 5 seconds.

I am way behind the curve on this beauty business. I haven't tried any BB or CC products yet. I'm pretty happy with the Eve Lom products but curiosity may get the better of me eventually.

    1. xoxo well I'm older than you by many years so these CC creams and BB balms are a necessary part of my routine now. They are brilliant for the spf though, and are not uncomfortable to wear all day so you might want them for that purpose, I see many afternoons at the playground in your future. :)
If Scout gave me 5 seconds that would be great. Will try treats and normal voice! Oh go dog sledding! I've always wanted to do that, we might go to the Von Trapp Resort next Christmas (in Stowe Vermont) and that is one of the winter activities, a big draw I must say!

  15. Scout is a doll. I am dreaming of Spring, especially since we turn our clocks ahead this weekend. Slugger will soon start baseball and I am dreading being chilled to the bone in the bleachers at his games. I do have a new North Face Coat that is certain to help fend off the chill.
I've decided that my feet are happiest in sandals, so warm weather can't get here soon enough for me. I'm hoping our LA weekend this month warms us up a bit. I'm really day dreaming about what to wear on the trip, though nothing out of the ordinary is required, it is still fun to get a bit out of the norm for a get away. Plus we're going to the DVF Wrap 40 exhibit, http://www.dvf.com/wrap40/ - I'm sure I will be more inspired than ever for a new dress.

  21. So happy to learn that there are so many other nice people who detest bananas! And I have developed quite a crush on Scout. We've been planning trips as our antidote to the awful weather, and I've been browsing sales.

My best skin care indulgence is the La Mer eye cream and eyebalm. They're fantastic, v. expensive but one tiny jar lasts more than a year if applied correctly, and I use my rewards from Saks or Bloomies to defray the cost.

Of course we live in Doggy Couture Central, my favorite dog accessory is the little boots, which are actually necessary because the salt on streets and sidewalks hurts pawpads.

    1. Fred last night I almost lost my mind and booked us a trip to the Bahamas... for next week! Okay I might try that eye cream, thanks for the tip. expensive but sounds long-lasting. I know the poor little paws! So cute!

  22. Small banana nearly every day here; I freeze them, too, for cocoa, raspberry, yogurt smoothies.

I've used Trish McEvoy BB cream for a year now, still on the first tube. Amazing light texture, no smell, can't tell if it's reversing the ravages of time but does combat any redness effectively.

Ferragamos are a good fit for those of us with narrow feet, esp heels. I don't have to add heel pads; but I don't really "need" them in my current life.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Land thanks for reminding me to freeze my bananas. I bought a pair of Ferragamo's last summer and it was like a revelation, most shoes are too wide for my feet, even my beloved Kiki flats are really too wide. Just a smidge but it does affect comfort.

  23. I'm with Mr. BP on the subject of bananas but not on coats/sweaters for dogs. When the temperatures here (Virginia) dip to freezing or below, all the dogs sport snazzy sweaters or jackets. My friend's dog has a veritable wardrobe of coats and sweaters, including a mini Barbour jacket that would fit Scout to a T. During our last two snowstorms, I noticed more dogs with paw-protecting Gortex arrangements. Apparently all the salt and chemicals used to treat ice can harm their paws.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Janet I guess in Virginia they don't fool around! Funny it's not common to see dog coats here and certainly not booties. Our sidewalks are so terrible I've been taking Scout for long walks... in the garden.

      Delete
    2. Dani, That's a very gracious explanation. We're probably more appalled by arctic air than Canadians and tend to go a bit bonkers. N.B Never venture near a grocery store unless absolutely necessary if snow has been predicted. Same goes for hurricanes. Also, this area is very keen on dogs; a fountain erected in the 1750s includes a place for dogs to get a drink.

  24. Loving that Scout! My oakville soap guy sold me on the beauty of Laundress products. He also sells Diptyque and if I go bankrupt this year, it's on his head! Can't believe it's snowing again! Spring, where art thou?

    1. Jen I think we have the same soap-guy. Known on the net as "plain and simple home"? I had a devastatingly large order of Laundress and Diptyque shipped out to me today, I'm blaming the hideous weather! At this point it's easier to give up on spring, looking for it will be emotionally trying to say the least.

  25. I think the majority of my diet is made up of avocados and bananas: bananas (we called them 'nimeoes'
as children) on my granola in the am and fresh guac with carrots in the afternoon. Don't tell Mr BP.
Have you seen the dog gear at LLBean? Im pretty sure they have coats of a more rugged appearance.
