Mop Philosophy Monday

I don't know about your house but my laundry room gets into a frightful state of chaotic mess very easily.  It is the dumping ground not just for the filthy, but the unwanted, the broken and all of those irritating things that just need sorting.
I was working away at getting some order in there all last week and it's finally nearly there.  At this point I just need to do a big cleaning and a polish.  Then the descent into chaotic mess can once again resume!
It does feel good to get some linens ironed.
I have finally found a reasonable solution for my ironing water addiction which can potentially be ruinously expensive.  The Laundress does a lovely ironing water that is highly concentrated, and when combined with distilled water I can get several litres out of one little bottle.
I saved my fancy glass bottles that held ironing water from France.  I just fill them up with a few tablespoons of the Laundress concentrated ironing water before filling them to the top with distilled water.  Voila, loads of ironing water fit for putting directly in the steam iron.
The smell is wonderful!

My neighbour Jen gave me this little plant at our Christmas block party back in December, look I haven't killed it yet:
Laundry room windowsill.
I have had this blue and white plate since 1993.  I remember exactly the day that I purchased it because Ole Rascal was a wee baby in his stroller and I came across an entire set of dishes in this pattern in a gift shop in St. John's, Newfoundland.  I loved the pattern then and I still love it now.
I used to think I should try to collect this pattern but somehow having this one plate, with that memory attached to it, is just perfect.

How's your day shaping up?  Did you watch the Oscars?  I didn't make it past 9:00, predictable!
Hope your week starts off beautifully,
xoxDani

  1. The laundry room looks fabulous! I especially like the shelves with useful items. The water bottles are beautiful full or empty. My laundry room is very tiny and can look cluttered with almost no effort. Its the room connecting the house to the garage and gets lots of traffic. I wish it was the calming oasis that your laundry room appears to be!

I got in some of the red carpet before wandering off to do other things and then abandoning the television completely. I am happy the hear The Shape Of Water won best picture. I'll have to go catch up on the rest of the awards.

    1. SD Last week my laundry room was awful, I could hardly wade through the stuff that needed sorting. If it's in a poor state I feel like it's a reflection of the entire house, I can't let it get out of control for too long.
A laundry room that acts as a hallway would be very difficult to keep organized, I guess it would really be a dumping ground! But I think they all tend to be.
I always look forward to the Oscars and then I get bored and go to bed early! xxx

  2. So beautiful, I'm very envious of those across the pond with laundry rooms.
Today is our first day back to normality after Snowmaggedon, there has been no food on the shelves until today, going to the shops and seeing bread milk and vegetables made me feel as if I was in the Garden of Eden! And then someone crashed into me! The roads are still pretty bad, I read a great comment from a Canadian in the paper last week, "How on earth did the Scots colonise Canada?' Hilarious!

    1. Oh no hope you are okay Tabs! That is too funny about colonizing Scotland.. It is the same here if we get bad weather. People show they have no clue. Take care!

    2. Tabs, dying laughing. How did the Scots manage it, so funny! But if you're not used to the snow it makes driving really hazardous, for one you won't have snow tires which are a MUST, and also handling the car takes a different set of skills in snow. Can't believe that delivery trucks couldn't even get food to the shops, my gosh it must have been a total panic. Hope you're back to normal today. And that the crash wasn't too bad! xxx

  3. Dani your laundry room is so pretty and cheering. I love the plant and the blue and white. I have to get some of that laundress water. I think it would make that task so much more pleasant- even the bottles are lovely! I have a few on off plates like that blue one! It's great you have a little memory too that goes with it! By the way, you didn't miss too much with the Oscars. It was overall a bit dull. Enjoy your week Dani! xoxo

    1. Kim thanks to your Oscars post I feel like I didn't miss anything! :)
Try the Laundress water, mix it with distilled and one bottle will last months. It makes ironing MUCH more pleasant and quite a bit easier too. I can only iron with a steam iron, I have to say it is not a favourite chore. Thanks Kim xxx

  4. Dani, have you ever tried Martha's recipe for lavender water? I'm not sure if it's to put directly in the iron, but it can be spritzed. Here's a link to the video:

My brother-in-law brought me two of the Lothantique waters years ago. One broke in his luggage. He didn't really enjoy his lavender-scented clothes!

I can't believe your brother-in-law was so thoughtful to have done that... too bad it didn't end well though. ;) xxx

  8. Your laundry room looks very organized. Ours is also the cleaning supply room, mud room, and dog room so it's chaos. I don't even attempt to watch the Oscars any more. I've seen no movies without superheros and I go to bed too early. The time when I used to see all the films and be on top of that industry seems several lifetimes ago. That plate is a winner. I agree, on it's own, it's extra special. Xx

    1. Jen I think I need to see more superhero movies! This year for some reason we watched almost all of the Best Picture nominated movies. The Churchill movie was by far my favourite, I LOVED it. You might like it, Churchill was kind of a cigar-smoking, Scotch and Champagne swilling superhero! ;) xxx

  9. The first time I got married (in 1972) I registered for those dishes - they're called Calico Blue and White. I believe they came in red and brown as well. My cousin did as well and she still has hers! I must be the only person on earth who dislikes the scent of lavender. Hmmmm

    1. Kathy thank you so much for identifying the pattern! My gosh can't believe they were your pattern from your first wedding, well as usual I love your style. Red and brown be still my heart. They sound gorgeous. Lavender isn't for everyone, some people find it very medicinal. I had a Diptyque lavender candle going in our powder room during our last dinner party and a couple of my friends told me they hated the smell! xxx
