Mop Philosophy Monday

I've been busy at my sewing machine these last couple of days.  I suddenly grew quite tired of the cushion covers on my front porch... here are the new ones.
I like the neutral fabric, a green print on a cream ground is so soothing, don't you think?  Fits with the general theme of greenery in the outdoors.
Here is the giant ivy hanging on my porch.  It's enormous!
The begonias have gone silly as well, it's all the rain.  We've got two of these in the pink, on either side of the porch steps.  I think they say "welcome, please sit on the porch for a Lillet on the rocks."

Talking through flowers... well it's been done for centuries!
I placed a little bouquet of my sweetheart roses (The Fairy Rose) in a wee vase on the windowsill of one of the landings.  I don't think anyone notices but it really pleases me to see it as I walk up and down the stairs.
It's the little things.
The hydrangeas are also having a banner year.
Fresh green hydrangeas.
It's the long weekend here in Canada and happily our son Old Rascal came home for a visit.
He looks like a new young man, his summer job keeps him outside for 50 hours a week.

He was happy to be home for Momma's cooking.
It was an Italian themed weekend, meatballs, spaghetti and Chianti.
I didn't get a picture of the pasta dinner as it was gobbled straightaway by those Rascals.
On the second night I assembled a zucchini gratin to accompany a giant turkey breast that I rolled in parmigiana reggiano and ground almonds.
Salad with lemon dressing and more reggiano.
It's a faux-ceasar.

Black perfect-fit tee from JCrew.
Long No.2 Pencil Skirt in double serge cotton JCrew.
In case you're wondering what I was wearing, wonder no further.  It's not very exciting, black shirt and skirt, but the shoes are the thing.
Chie Mihara Heels with Kissy Faces.
Happy Canada Day to my fellow countrymen... and wishing the rest of you an excellent Monday.

  1. OH forgot those shoes! Well done you on the new cushion covers - I really go have to buy myself a sewing machine - have not sewn at all for 20 years!

We had a big feast as well last night - lamb chops, corn on the cob, roasted potatoes with thyme flowers and the rhubarb/strawberry crisp. All good!

My hydrangeas are at least one to two weeks away - all of my peonies are not yet in bloom! Hoping the weather holds off so folks around here can enjoy the great outdoors for one day, anyway!

    1. WMM, those are my crazy shoes and I love them. They are strangely comfortable, even for serving dinner. I wonder, you might like a sewing machine, you are very industrious and it is satisfying to just whip things up!

  2. Love me some hydrangeas but I just don't have the room. Those shoes are too funny and a perfect balance for all black. You seem a great cook as well. Happy Canada Day!

  3. You are so incredibly well dressed on a day to day basis! I am a big fan of green and white leafy prints, they are wonderful and I love the one you've got for your porch cushions. Phew, dinner at yours and Wendy's sounds fab!
Am cleaning out the fridge - it's possible 8 years since the last time -cough.

    1. Tabs it seems well dressed but I'm in pajamas right now. I found that print for $6 a metre can you believe it! I bought 7 metres and I have a few more throw cushions to sew up. Still, good price for a complete porch re-do, I'm quite happy about it.
The fridge! I love a clean fridge!

  4. So glad you were able to enjoy your older son. There is something about cooking for them when they come to visit versus the daily grind of trying to prepare slop, I mean dinner. They are much more appreciative.

    1. Blue Booby isn't it amazing how it changes. Really love cooking for my boy when he comes home, and when he leaves I fret about his meals for a couple of days, hard to let go.

Your weekend sounds lovely with a little bit of everything to keep you amused and content.
I am digging out plants and weeding our garden and there is nothing glamorous about my attire today.

  6. Happy Canada Day. Enjoy your fabulous family weekend. I'm planning something for us this July 4th weekend. Probably heading to the coast with the dog for the day-a quick and much needed get away.

  7. Happy Canada Day! I've always loved the Canadian National Anthem--the most beautiful song ever.

Your dinner looks delicious! And I love the cushions. How nice to have a change.

    1. Susan you know you're right it is a very very good anthem. Strong and free is how most Canadians see themselves, an upright lot they are! New cushions are brilliant, I'm so happy I can sew straight lines!

  8. GREEN SEATS Well, how industrious are you - and what a lovely result. Those whimsical Chies really kick basic black. And I love themed menus, in part because we don't have oodles of "Canadian" cuisine and, more importantly, I find if you shop thinking Italian, French or Asian it seems to work for lots of meals.

  9. Love your cushions and flowers Dani and i am with Tabs, i can't believe how well dressed you are around the house. I am always in shorts and tanks these days and i never wear real shoes, only flip flops. I realized that if i did not work in the office i would never get properly dressed...

    1. M have you sewn before? My next project is cushions for the back garden, I found some outdoor fabric for that. It's nice to be able to make things yourself, so much cheaper and a better expression of the look you might want. Good week back at you!

  15. Happy Canada Day! Love that fabric-- I have new black and cream print ones but I hired someone to make them. I've made my own curtains, the few I have. Great job!

  16. Happy Canada Day! I love the cushions. That is such lovely fabric. I sew home
furnishings-curtains, cushions etc quite often, but have to admit that I get stressed over filling the big cushions as I never seem to get it quite right. Yours do look great.

  17. The porch looks so inviting. Good for you making the cushions.Great that your son got a chance to visit. Is he going into his 4th year this fall? I also feel the same way when they tell me a visit on the horizon I turn on the CBC and cook up a storm. They love it and appreciate the effort.
    Happy Canada Day!
