Mop Philosophy Monday

Smythson Antonia Clutch in a dark red with a silk taffeta leopard print.

If I wasn't mopping today I'd definitely trot around in this silk taffeta leopard print jacket.  It has a sort of peplum waist and some very glamourous black and gold snaps... it's perfect over a simple black dress.
I think a red clutch with an animal print is perfectly acceptable but what do you think?  A bit over the top?

Animal prints are either front and centre or lurking around the next corner it seems, and for whatever reason I'm finding the whole idea attractive right now.
I found my Valentino jacket on ebay in July and  look what MrBP bought for me while we were on holiday in August:
Tory Burch Denise Dress

More animal print, this time in an unusual navy and brown colourway.

The skirt has a wonderful swingy set of pleats that give a nice movement.  I haven't worn it yet but I'm eyeballing Friday night as a possible outing... I'll take a little picture if it all works out for us.
I really have fall clothes on my mind these days... it's getting colder and I've been going through my closet, donating and mending.  There's not much I'm planning on buying but I am looking at some good English Hiking Clothes.

My friend Stephanie has one and I think I might copy her.

What about a tweed skirt for walking?  It can't be too long or too short or too tight...

A wool scarf is always welcome in the fall.  I seem to be drawn towards touches of a dark red these days.  Further evidence of this:
Agnes pure wool handprinted scarf from The Rose.
Have you been looking at fall clothes?  Goodness knows there are lots of options.  Tempted by anything?  Planning anything that requires a new outfit?

  1. I think the TB dress looks more like a constellation from afar than leopard print. If anything I already have so many coats but only rotate between two for some reason but I am tempted by a pink coat this winter.

    1. Don't buy a pink coat! Everyone is going to be sporting them, it will be "like so 2013" by January.

    2. Tabs you're so funny, and I'm guessing you're right. That medium shade of pink is looking so attractive in a coat right now... I've been looking at them too but I'm not allowing myself to buy coats for a couple of years, I have the perfect amount right now.
Naomi it does look like a constellation I see that now!

    3. I am loving them too, but they will be a cliche by next August.

    4. Oh Tabs...Everytime I see a trend I always think gosh it's so now it's yesterday but I thought just this once I might run with the herd. I am usually a spoilsport!

    5. Then go buy a matching pink lipstick and strut your stuff as a new Rosicrucian!

  2. It is supposed to be 90 degrees here on Wednesday so no, not yet. I am holding on to the summer for the dear life. However, when I went back to school shopping with my daughter I refused to buy her any short shorts, lol.

    1. ajc I refuse to buy short-shorts also. That would have been a fun trip for us to do together. I had to put away my summer dresses, I had such a good rotation going all summer, a TB dress with a Brora cardigan and some flats. But they all look very summer, with white backgrounds and prints... I just can't wear them now, the psychology of September I guess.
These days I'm living in jeans and an old jumper anyway, this month I'm giving my house a huge cleaning!

  3. You might be a mind reader, Dani. I've got a leopard print jacket on my wish list. The Kate Spade, in fact. It's a new release and very spendy so I'll either pass altogether or wait for a big, big sale. I love leopard. I consider it a neutral and wear it with anything. It's a print that can vary greatly and veer from elegant to tacky easily.

I would love to see a shot of your entire taffeta jacket!

    1. DF I'll have to go check out that Kate Spade jacket. When I do wear it out with my black dress I'll take a photo, my black dress needs tailoring so it will be another month at least, I can't wait to wear it out to dinner!

    2. DF - I'm with you and have the same KS coat/jacket on my list. I also love and think it a neutral and classic so wear it whether it's in or out. I hope that one makes it to big sale too.

  4. Hi Dani!

We are like AJC - supposed to be 80 on weds, though doesn't feel like that now! I think leopard and red go really well together. I always wear my elie tahari leopard blazer with my red dress - I just find it very chic!

I like the TB dress! It reminds me a bit of the Nougat London cardigan I purchased last winter and must dig out soon as it is cotton and dark and this is just the time for those kinds of knits - too early for cashmere, too cool for a lot of my light knits! I do love TB! I like your Rose picks, too! I actually picked up a tommy Hilfiger extremely lightweight down jacket for walking this fall, once the fleece won't work...It comes so quickly when it comes!!!

    1. Wenders it's pretty warm here today so I guess that's coming your way. That gilet is nicely made, stuffed with wool, I love a vest like that for hiking. Leopard and red, thanks for the thumbs up!

  5. Antonia fell apart again yesterday she is coming back from Smythson hospital tomorrow, I really wanted a new one but the style of Antonia that I bought sold out, pfft. At one point they said it would take 12 weeks and a trip to Italy to fix her! That dress is beautiful l animal print.

    1. Tabs well I'd be pretty cross if my Smythson bags fell apart. I love them, that red clutch is proving handier than I imagined, I brought it to church yesterday, it's dark enough in colour that it looks good with many things and it's just the size to perch on the shelf of the church pew. And it's so weird because they seem so incredibly well made! Did they give you any clues as to why yours fell apart?

    2. Oh I never saw your red clutch, is it the Nancy? I have that in red.
My bag is top handle, it has a completely different top to yours, it's a hardware issue.

  6. I am always tempted by fall clothes and have been purging my wardrobe once again and have picked up a couple of basics during the J Crew promos. Animal prints are not for me though I admire them on others-especially with a pop of red. I love what I'm seeing at Rag & Bone and as usual don't know where I'd wear much of it. This season I'm in search of a couple of perfect basics but I'm hesitant to invest much as I'm still loosing weight. Not to worry thought I bought the Martina Suede wedge in black and the MacAllister in nut during the promo plus a bounce back card, so it was like getting one pair for $20 :-)
My trip to NY is finally near. We leave in a couple of weeks - so I'm saving my budget for the Big Apple in hopes of unique treasures.

    1. Hi Anon, I've devoted the month of September to cleaning and organizing as well, it's going to take me longer though as I keep adding jobs to my already long list. The Rose has excellent customer service and their measurements have been extremely accurate so far. I ordered the skirt and will report when it arrives!

  8. Changed over my closets this weekend, so naturally now the weather is skyrocketing to 30 by the weekend...NOT that I'm complainin'! I love the red with leopard...especially with your beautiful dark locks...will look smashin'. I was in Holt's on Friday and was told that they'd recently had a workshop where they were told black & ivory with red accents are the bees knees this autumn/winter. Ahead of the curve again, my dear!

    1. Hi Rebecca, Holt's! We were at the Holt Renfrew in Ottawa (which is where MrBP bought me that dress), what a gorgeous store! I liked it much better than the Toronto store which is always a madhouse. The customer service was excellent. Apparently they have renovated Yorkdale, I'd like to go and have a look myself one of these days.
Black and ivory with red.... sounds good to me!

  9. I would also love to see more of the Valentino jacket. The print looks very artistic. Animal prints are perennial fall favorites and I have a few in my closet that come out every year. I get my fix mostly from accessories but have a couple of skirts as well. I will be sticking with the accessories this year, for obvious reasons.

Loving the Smythson clutch. I can't wait to visit the store!

  10. I too can not do animal prints. Not sure why, I just feel silly. I do like them on others and therefor always seem to give it one more try. Summer has arrived and not really wanted anymore. I am ready for jeans...my legs are quite pasty and I've grown bored of self tanning.

    1. Hi Blue Booby, These transition months are always difficult as far as what to wear, these days I'm wearing old clothes and an apron as I scrub my whole house so it doesn't really matter. I love animal prints! I have to stop myself from buying more. Small doses are key!

  11. Dani, So jealous of your jacket! It's wonderful and will be a classic I think. I do like the red with it. Also The Rose is a fab site. Wonderful things there. That toile scarf is lovely..I'm still mulling over the wardrobe and what to add and subtract. I'd love to add a classic dress like your Tory. It's beautiful!

Hope you are feeling better now. So sorry to hear about your food poisoning.

    1. Hi Kim, yes better now thank you! It's so nice to add in a dress in the fall, this one is perfect as it has all of the colours in my fall wardrobe, I also have the most perfect dark brown heels for it, I'll take a pic when I finally get a chance to wear the thing!

  12. Love what I can see of your leopard print jacket, would be so elegant over a black dress and I think red, or any bright color with leopard print is a great combination. You'll have to show us when you are wearing the outfit.

With temperature hovering around 90F, it's not time for me to think clothes for fall yet. So far I am not tempted by much.

  13. Hi Dani, I am late on this one. I love this dress it looks great and I am sure you will wear it perfectly. I love my Billy jacket and I am looking for a Autumn-Spring coat at the Rose... And I have my eyes on the Aran poncho at Brora, but I think this will rather be a Xmas present than a Autumn purchase :-)

  14. Hi Dani, your Valentino jacket looks gorgeous (from I can see - I hope you post a full length shot of the jacket some time!), and I love the combination of red and leather. The Tory Burch dress looks lovely too, the dark blue will really set off your colouring.

It is supposed to hit 34C in Toronto today, but I am still busy putting away my summer clothes. I have not been looking at the new offerings in the stores, as I am determined to shop my closet and spend as little as possible. The only thing I plan to buy this season is a pair of black riding pants and a pair of riding boots.
