Domestic Weekend

Lily of the Valley from our garden.
It's that time of the year that we enjoy so much after the long winter: the house is open to the garden and the domestic chores have extended to the outdoors.  MrBP loves to work in the garden and will be edging, planting and generally covering himself with dirt like a grown-up Pig-Pen.  I'll be cooking, hanging laundry outside and washing some windows.
One benefit of a long winter is that everyday I wake up and I'm surprised that spring is here!

I'm working on my "Tailored House" posts involving the kitchen, foyer and some Slapdash Decorating I've done for our outdoor spaces.  If you're around this weekend please check back in for these posts.

Are you having a domestic weekend or are you off on an adventure?

  1. Very domestic weekend for me! We are at least 2 or 3 weeks behind you for blooms - my tulips are just coming into bloom right now! Yesterday afternoon, Barry dug up a cedar and a spirea that were half-dead; one more to go and then off to the nursery for some new shrubs! Looking forward to the posts; my house is anything BUT tailored these days! Actually, not sure tailored would even be used to describe my style would it? Hmmmm - not sure!

  3. Hello Dani,

Sounds like a perfectly swell weekend to me. I love the pleasure an orderly house and garden brings to one's life, and also a charming little posy of Lily of the Valley to cap it all off.

  4. Dani, love lily of the valley's tiny droplets and graceful incline, for some reason always reminds me of debutantes curtseying -- think presentation at court a la Downton and southern belle balls. Domesticus et labora here, with some sunshine thrown in since is indeed the sweet time of summer. Own Pigpen and unexpected pony -- the Mop Philosopher is lucky indeed.

  5. Sounds relaxing and lovely. I will mostly be off the grid, but secretly, would love to just garden a la Pigpen. We did have Very Important and Wonderful houseguests from the North this week and had a blast! Looking forward to seeing your charming and tailored house; mine is a comfortable flea market!

    1. A nice flea market! I think that's the apt description of mine as well, Lane. I think I'd describe mine as comfy, cozy and a wee bit off kilter (I do have a giraffe in the dining room after all!)

  6. We are off to our farm tomorrow morning early to enjoy a relaxed three day weekend--just the two of us. We plan to relax on our screened porch (rain expected) and have simple grilled meals mostly.

  8. I've been on vacation and am driving, or riding at the moment, home. Rather begrudgingly as I was considering not coming home at all! But it'll be nice to come home to nice weather and a long weekend. Love the little lily of the valley! So cute.
